__p To commemorate the first broadsheet published on this day, the Indian Newspaper Society has decided to observe January 29 as ‘Indian Newspaper Day’. And we at ChannelTimes take great pride in being part of the ‘newspaper brigade’, albeit as an eNewspaper in the electronic realm.
p____p A few years ago, when the dot-com bubble bust, the idea of an eNewspaper might have easily been written off as a pie-in-the-sky concept. Today, however, there are steps to take the eNewspaper onto the next level.
p____p The ubiquitous newspaper, which has come a long way since it was first introduced, is seeing greater expansion with newer mediums being developed, and the opportunity of propagating news growing greater than ever. All the same, it’s easy to imagine ways technology could improve the form.
p____p E-publications across the world are exploring possibilities and intensifying experimentation to develop a digital newspaper, which researchers envision will represent a real revolution. Printed on pages as flexible as newsprint with Internet speed, reports indicate, tomorrow’s eNewspaper may resemble a futuristic version of today’s daily – replete with columns of stories, photos, and headlines in traditional journalistic typefaces, delivered in a stylish portable form.
p____p Venturing beyond the disposable pulp rags of today, eNewspapers such as ChannelTimes will continue to project the community’s viewpoint in a powerful manner.
p____p The ability to reach worldwide audiences via the Internet is a long-awaited dream that has attained fruition through the electronic medium. Print newspapers are an integral part of the media world and will continue to be so. But its electronic avatar has already taken tremendous strides, powered by the matchless speed of the Internet.
p____p So, it is just a matter of time when the achromatic newsprint will find its glory days gradually give way to flexible, portable, up-to-the-minute eNewspapers. Because when ePaper takes hold, the transition will happen quickly.
p____p The newspaper as we know will continue to exist, but as a second cousin. The present digital divide between the new vibrant media and the old staid newspaper will disappear sooner than expected. The idea of a global village will finally take shape.
