Let me give you an example. In a market where there is only one person selling helium balloons, he will go unnoticed. So the best way advertise himself is to let go of a few balloons, so that the people realize that he is there in the market. While he may have lost a few balloons, he will recover it through the consequent sales margins.
While this is the ethical way of bringing in business, I wonder how many are all applying this concept in our IT community. Well, we are being threatened by the e-traders, who are unethical in pricing and are poaching our customers and this is increasing everyday. But what about our the malpractice that exist between us? Can anyone come out in open and say that it does not exist?
Recently, a senior fellow member revealed he has suffered considerable losses because a few of his potential customers were diverted and poached by an aggressive seller.
In what looks like a worrying trend in places like Puducherry, there have been attempts to poach customers from other traders. As a usual practice the retailer takes the contact information of a customer when he enters the office.
If he leaves without making any purchase, he appoints a person to follow him and if it is found that the customer is going to another place, he calls the customer and gives the rate cheaper than the other retailer. This is a ruthlessness practice to liquidate their stock and to satisfy his premium status.
These is a need to stop such practices adopted by anyone in our community and this is what made me to write. We should all stand united for the same cause and should not attempt to kill the weaker.
These black-sheeps in our community (and their names are not revealed in this article to give them a second chance) should correct their unethical practices and if they continue to this they will have to be penalized as per norms or by law.
