The Goa government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Google India to promote digital literacy, develop internet safety education for students, promote android development and make government websites mobile friendly.
The MoU was signed by chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar and vice-president Google South East Asia and India Rajan Anandan in Panaji.
Partnership with Google India will be a turning point in the field of IT in Goa and will be known as one of the milestone in the IT history of the state said Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar at the function organized to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Govt of Goa and Google India to promote digital literacy and drive digital transformation across the state.

Vice President, Google Southeast Asia and India Rajan Anandan, ,said, “We are delighted to support the Government of Goa in its vision to be a digitally empowered State. We look forward to working with the state government to create an enabling environment and ecosystem to help students, small and medium businesses and entrepreneurs to realize the full potential of the Internet and the opportunities it offers.”

The scope of the MoU envisages Google India and the Government of Goa working collaboratively in the following areas
• Make all government sites mobile friendly
• Putting the rich cultural heritage of Goa on the global map
Together with the Culture and Tourism Department work towards creating a digital repository of the architectural and cultural heritage of the state, its history and imagery as part of Google Cultural Institute project.
• Introduce programs to help local small and medium businesses stay safe online, by organizing Internet Safety workshops for SMBs
• Driving awareness and helping businesses adopt measures to safeguard themselves online
• Promote digital literacy among women: To bring ‘Internet Sathi’ project to Goa. Google will help conduct trainings for women to promote digital literacy among them and provide them with Internet Enabled Devices and training material which they can use to train other women in their respective villages.
• Promote Android Developer education: In association with National Skill Development Corporation of India, to introduce Android Fundamentals courses for students persuing B.Tech/BE and MCA to help them learn mobile app development on Android.
• Supporting the Startup community: organize and conduct the State Roundtable with CII to encourage participation from the startup community in Goa
As a first step to realize this vision, the Goa State Government will launch ‘Internet Safety Education’ for students in Goa in association with Google India. The state government has given a nod to include internet safety education as part of the school curriculum of classes 9 th to 12th in Government schools across the state. Google has created a curriculum in consultation with experts, developed and shared modules for integration in curriculum. As part of the program, Google India has initiated teacher trainings and will soon expand to cover 460 schools, teaching over 80,000 students on how to stay safe online.
