Buy Only From Our Authorized Resellers, Warns Fitbit

Authorized Resellers,

Kolkata, Oct 04: Wearable brand Fitbit warns consumers to buy its products only through its authorized resellers and partners. Those purchasing from online channels may do so at their own risks, it said.

Fitbit’s Brand Protection team has reportedly identified counterfeit products that are being produced and sold to unsuspecting consumers globally through unauthorized retail channels and eCommerce sites.

In India too, with the coming of the festive season, e-commerce sites are offering products across electronics, appliances, and lifestyle categories and at highly discounted prices. A good example would be Flipkart’s Big Billion Day sale, where Fitbit products are available at exceptionally lower, discounted rates. However, Fitbit stated that the online retail giant is technically not authorized to do that.

For example, the FitBit Blaze, is available at a discounted price of Rs 11,994 down from Rs 19,990 – a massive Rs 8,000 price drop, which is undoubtedly tempting. Another product, the Surge, is available for Rs 14,994 from its original price tag of Rs 24,990 indicating a huge Rs 10,000 price drop.

No matter how tempting the Fitbit products can be online, the company warned in its own blog post: “Like many famous companies, the very strength of Fitbit’s brand has made us a target of counterfeiters.”

Fitbit warned that consumers should be aware that there are a number of third party non-authorized distributors and resellers which are offering “refurbished” Fitbit products. These products are sourced through a variety of secondary market sources outside of Fitbit’s authorized sales and distribution channels.

“When Fitbit products are purchased outside of our authorized sales channels, we cannot guarantee the quality, provenance or authenticity of those products. In addition, products purchased outside of our authorized retail channels may not be eligible for warranty, replacement and customer support,” the blog mentioned.

This would technically mean that on buying a Fitbit wearable via Flipkart, the product may not be covered under warranty.

The wearable company also took to its official twitter handle to warn potential buyers about the same. “Know our authorized retailers to be eligible for warranty, replacement & customer support,” said the company.”
