Robotic Surgery involves a doctor performing an operation utilizing machines. The concept is rapidly gaining adoption in India, particularly for cancer related operations owing to high accuracy in the process.

Expers in the medical domain claim that doctors witness a faster recovery time for patients which had undergone robotic surgeries as compared to manual surgical operations. Despite the high costs involved in a robotic surgery, the faster recovery time helps save the patient save on his post-surgery expenses, which in the country are significantly high. It also precisely extracts the cancerous tissues, saving other organs.

”Having completed 5,000 procedures, the company is now planning to take it to the rural areas. “We want the technology to reach people, so we are taking it to hospitals in tier-II and tier-III cities to spread awareness,” said Gopal Chakravarthy, Chief Executive Officer, Vatiikuti Technologies.

The company initially will target cities including Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Pune and Coimbatore from the coming month and will set up a training center in the country to mentor surgeons as well as certify them. At present, robotic surgeons in the country head to US for availing a certification. The company will invest around $15-20 million for the expansion process.

“To cater to growing demand we will train 500 surgeons in robotic surgery. We want more hospitals to adopt the new technology as the volume will bring down the price,” said Raj Vattikuti, Founder, Vattikuti Technologies.
