In a world where the Internet of things (IoT) becomes increasingly popular, identity and data security have become a popularly debated and sought after issues, worldwide.
As the world goes further towards mobile-first in approach, the demand for cost-effective, user-friendly and secure solutions are on the rise. Texas-based HID Global has stepped into the lucrative Indian market, by launching its mobile initiative, which includes a set of solutions, investments and strategic alliances with the aim of secure and user-friendly experience for target Indian consumers.
Alongside this move, they have introduced a set of low-cost and eco-friendly solutions for issuance of ID cards, which have the optional multi-purpose functionality.
The highlight of the HID introductions was the latest mobility solutions, including the HID go ID platform for mobile IDs, making it possible to carry driver’s license and other citizen IDs on smart devices such as phones, apart from the new enhancements to the HID Mobile Access, which bring in similar functionality to smartwatches and tablets. This makes it possible to have secure access to buildings, with only a swipe of the devices near the reader, or even through NFC (Near field communication) tapping on it.
This development is known to particularly benefit government initiatives, who can now issue credentials and IDs (drivers’ license, passports, social security cards, etc.) over-the-air in a secure, and a timely manner. This solution also enhances the smart devices’ capabilities to become a single secure credential and ID-card reader, meaning that one may not even need to physically carry documents at border crossings, and other crucial checkpoints. And to make it even more seamless an experience, iOS and Android devices have been aligned to work with the system.
The government, educational institutions, business enterprises, and other organizations have been issuing ID cards, most of the time on a large scale, which also puts pressure on resources to have high quality prints at the same time. HID has launched the Direct-to-Card (DTC) FARGO DTC5500LMX ID-card Printer/Encoder to meet these needs with an effective cost base.
The standout features of the DTC5500LMX is the innovative wasteless lamination technology, completely eliminating the usual wastage associated with carrier-films, having the world’s first Green Circle certification for up to 60 per cent reduced energy consumption.
On top of that, the iON technology helps in heating up and initiating lamination of cards within just 45 seconds, bringing down the time needed to print the first card of the lot. The FARGO HDP5600, which was a part of the launch as well, works on similar premises, but is known for better high-definition printing functionality. While the DTC5500LMX prints cards at 300 dpi, the FARGO HDP5600 goes on to print at 600 dpi, for better definition.
HID Global also conducted its own APAC centered survey, which revealed a strong inclination for deployment of Mobile Access Control in country. Some of their major findings included;
– The survey audience had 45 per cent respondents from India alone.
– 57 per cent security professionals predict mobile access control, would replace traditional card based systems, but will take place gradually.
– Enhanced end-user experience and multi-factor authentication, are the most important drivers for using mobile access control.
