Apple iPhone has turned nine today. The revolutionary mobility gadget was launched on 29 June, 2007. Nine years on, the Apple iPhone has evolved, and has come a long way. However, there is still more to come forward in iphone’s journey.
The first-generation iPhone was launched first in the US only. It was in November 2007, that iPhone went on sale in UK, Germany and France. It was introduced in Ireland and Austria in April 2008.
The first iPhone was priced at $499 for 4GB variant and $599 for 8GB variant. Apple ceased to make iPhones in both these storage version long back. In fact, latest rumours about the upcoming iPhone, likely to be called iPhone 7 , suggest that the company may junk the 16GB model with this version.

The first iPhone packed a puny 3.5-inch display with a 480 x 320-pixel resolution. That was actually pretty large compared to the competition, and it was years before Apple was willing to offer an even larger screen. The device also featured a paltry 128MB of RAM and came with just 4GB, 8GB or 16GB of storage.
The original iPhone only had a 2MP camera and there wasn’t even a front-facing camera on the device. That came years later with the iPhone 4, ushering in the age of selfies and FaceTime video calls.

The first iPhone was also pretty limited in what it could do. There was no App Store (that launched a year later) so you were limited to the pre-loaded software. Apple boasted that the device could load full web pages using EDGE networks, but that process was painfully slow by today’s standards, often taking more than a minute to load a full HTML page.
Nine years later, the iPhone is an entirely different beast, offering everything from 4G LTE service and optical image stabilization to biometric security and mobile payments.
The next iPhone is also speculated to retain the same design as the current-generation iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Apple’s newest phones are expected to maintain the current 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays.
The company is said to be planning a major design overhaul in the iPhone slated to launch in 2017 as it will be the device’s 10th anniversary, according to a report in Wall Street Journal.
“Apple plans bigger design changes for 2017, the 10th anniversary of the original iPhone . Those changes could include an edge-to-edge organic light-emitting diode, or OLED, screen and eliminating the home button by building the fingerprint sensor into the display, according to people familiar with the matter,” said the report.
