Puducherry/Tirupur: Associations in Tirupur and Puducherry are gearing up full-fledged for getting accustomed to GST.

ITTAPDY (Information Technology Traders Association of Pondicherry) is planning to organize an interactive seminar on GST in association with Tally Solutions.

“Majority of the associated members are gradually migrating to GST transaction but still many have queries and doubts pertaining to how to do a specific transaction and what is the percentage of taxes, what is the HSN code for this commodity etc,” D. Soundarapandian, President, ITTAPDY was quoted as saying in media reports.

The president in his talk has raised concern over the confusion which the members are facing post-GST and said that keeping this whole vision in their mind, the association has arranged this interactive seminar on post-GST so that the confusion can be resolved soon.

Tirupur Association has submitted the report on behalf of Confed-ITA.

Tirupur IT Association representatives had recently met Union Minister for Commerce and Industries Nirmala Sitharaman and presented their expectations and concerns about GST.

“We gave the request letters from Confed-ITA admin board and from TITA regarding the relaxation of higher tax value products like printers and monitors. In GST all major IT products are under 18 percent. But some peripherals are under 28 percent. 90 percent of the market is using multi-function printers and it falls under 28 percent.

Small monitors are also under 28 percent. It may result in the increase of the product pricing to 10-15 percent. Because of the tax rate in monitors, the overall PC pricing may increase to nearly eight percent,” said, Pratheesh Mathew, President of the Association.

Since most IT products fall under 18 percent tax slab, there may be a hike of product pricing of eight percent. Therefore, IT market will not get many benefits compared to other Industries. According to the association, the GST will definitely strengthen the B2B market and will solve the threats from unethical online pricing.
