Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) is all set to expand its business in India, Bangladesh and Nepal. Although the Taiwan-based vendor of motherboards, ECS, is not a new entrant in the Indian IT market, its modus-operandi in this sub-continent is going to change radically.
In the recently-held Computex Taipei 2008, the group had displayed its full product line-up, which included motherboards, graphics cards, desktop systems, laptop computers, and other mobile products.
Committed to developing cutting-edge technology, the ECS group — whose name was earlier mainly mentioned for motherboards — has now geared up to adapt to the future surge in digital and mobile industries.
Recently, Esther Teng, regional marketing manager of ECS was in India. In a tete-a-tete with the ChannelTimes team, she revealed that in this sub-continent, the group is determined to strengthen its channel relationship.
While talking about the group’s target, Teng explained, according to their estimate nearly 5.57 million units of PCs were sold in India last year (IDC estimates nearly 6.5 million PCs), and ECS had a market share of around 20%. This year ECS will endeavor to raise its market share to 25%, when the total sales volume is estimated (according to ECS) to be 6.4 million units.

Although SES Technologies will continue to deal with ECS motherboards, its other components, especially the graphic cards will be in the hands of a yet-to-be-selected-partner. As far as servicing is concerned, Aforeserve (6 locations) is ECS’s Indian partner, at present.
In the Indian market, obviously ECS motherboards will face a tough competition from ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI. In the Graphics Card segment too, there will be a thriving competition.
However, considering the group’s strong base as an ODM/OEM partner of several Korean manufacturers, and good business in many Latin American countries, China, Thailand and other countries, the company is quite confident of establishing a firm base in India and the neighboring Bangladesh and Nepal. They also expect a strong support from the Indian resellers; in turn Indian resellers too may look ahead to a good fortune from the latest (mobile) devices from ECS.
