Domestic smartphone vendor Karbonn Mobiles has set up a new manufacturing plant at Bawal, Haryana. This is the company’s second facility in India, the other being Noida. The new facility, as per the company, has been set up in 6 months and has 22 assembly lines.
Karbonn Mobiles aims to manufacture around 30 million devices from this facility annually and employ around 4,000 people. The manufacturing unit for now is making 1.5 million units per month, which it aims to increase up to 2.5 million by the end of this year. The manufacturing includes both Karbonn devices and Panasonic devices.
Since Karbonn already manufactures mobile parts for Panasonic, the new facility too will be making for both the companies. “This year, the firm plans to make 25 million Karbonn handsets and 8 million Panasonic devices,” Shashin Devsare, executive director, Karbonn Mobiles toldTimes of India.
The domestic handset maker is also building a manufacturing unit at Tirupati. It would have SMT (Surface Mount Technology) production and assembly lines along with charger and battery units for the supplies.
“The Haryana plant is our humble contribution towards the government’s nation building efforts for inclusive and sustainable economic growth. It is a moment of great pride for us to be associated in a small way towards making India an economic superpower to reckon with. With an aim to bring the benefits of smartphone telephony to the masses, the manufacturing facility will help us in providing customized products for Indian market at a faster time,” said Pradeep Jain, managing director, Karbonn Mobiles.
The company also plans to venture into accessories and battery manufacturing by September 2016. For assembly technology, Karbonn Mobiles has teamed up with Vsun, which the company claims is the third largest technology manufacturing firm in China. Karbonn is going forward with the phased manufacturing process.
The next phase, as per the company, will include setting up of PCB lines. It also plans to reach the ‘70 percent manufacture milestone’ for its devices including local charger and battery manufacturing in India.
