Operators Set Up 48,000 New Telecom Sites To Resolve Call-drops

Call drops have become a serious concern in the telecom sector. Aiming to curtail this menace, operators have set up 48,000 new telecom sites around the country, as part of the 100-day plan to which they had committed to the government earlier.

After a meeting with telecom operators, Union Minister of Telecommunication Manoj Sinha said from June 10 onwards there will be the addition of around 60,000 Base Transceiver Station across the country, out of which 48,000 has been installed in the first 45 days according to a report published by gadgets.ndtv. This is the first meeting that Manoj Sinha’s is having with the telecom operators after taking charge of the all-important telecommunication portfolio earlier this month. It may be recalled that the Supreme Court had come down heavily on the government and the telecom operators on the issue of call drops.

The article further quoted Sinha as saying that the government was very serious about tackling the call drop issue. He assured the users that a lot of work will happen within the next 4-5 months on this front.

Sinha also revealed that the next phase of the telecom spectrum auction will take place in September. The government is expecting to mop up around Rs. 5.66 lakh crores from what could become the biggest-ever telecom airwaves auction.
