Xiaomi India Hires Snapdeal’s Raghu Reddy As Head Of Online Sales

Xiomi India has roped in Snapdeal’s ex senior director, Raghu Reddy as head of online sales. Previously, Reddy was heading Snapdeal’s mobile and tablet business.

This is a big step by Xiaomi as the company mentioned earlier that they were unaware of their popularity in the country and did not estimate the proportion of sales. This led them to manufacture more handsets just to meet the requirements in India alone. Later they went ahead to launch new handsets in the country, which again went in their favor, and Xiaomi managed to get a huge chunk of the smartphone market pie.

As their popularity grew, Xiaomi started promoting their brand by heavily using the social platform. Xiaomi does not believe in advertising and prefers making lower profits rather than suffering huge losses. Instead of making profits, they would prefer to pass that on to the customer by lowering the handset prices.

Xiaomi India head Manu Jain tweeted about Reddy joining the Chinese smartphone maker, who came on board last week.

Reddy comes after spending four years in Snapdeal and another four prior to that in leading consultancy Ernst and Young. Reddy did his BE from National Institute of technology Karnataka and later did his Finance and Marketing XLRI Jamsedpur.

Xiaomi is focusing on offline sale in India and recently got two new distributors onboard. However, 90 per cent of its sales still come from the online space in India at present.
