Nortel India has appointed Ravi Chauhan its new managing director. He will be responsible for the company’s overall business in India effective immediately. Chauhan replaces Ashoka Valia, who moved back to Canada recently to take up the role of vice president, corporate development.
Michael Pangia, president, Nortel Asia, said, “Ravi is an outstanding leader with extensive Nortel experience and a consistent track record of success. He is the perfect choice to lead our India team in this period of rapid development across the country, and to deliver enhanced business performance for Nortel in this important market.”
Chauhan was previously vice president, enterprise solutions, for Nortel India. Under his leadership, Nortel was able to grow the enterprise business and became a market leader in India with a string of high-profile successes. His leadership philosophy is focused on “sharing the vision” – with customers, with employees, and with all stakeholders in the organization, the company said.

Prior to joining Nortel, Chauhan held various executive positions at Digital Equipment India in India and at Cabletron Systems where he was responsible for driving the service provider business for Asia Pacific. In his new capability, he will continue to be based in Bangalore. Chauhan is an Alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and holds an Honours degree in electronics and communication from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.
