Mumbai: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today presented the much awaited Union Budget 2017. While the budget largely focused on rural development, the FM made very crucial announcements for the IT industry. The major emphasis on digital payment and special efforts for cyber security were among the several key announcement for the IT industry in the budget.

Here are some key highlights of Union Budget 2017.

Digital Revolution

# Allocation of Rs 10,000 crores for BharatNet Project in 2017-18.

# High-speed broadband on OFC will be available in more than 150,000 gram panchayats, with hotspots and access to digital services at low tariffs by the end of 2017-18.

# DigiGaon initiative will be launched to provide tele-medicine, education, and skills, through digital technology.

# Establishment of digital pension distribution system for retired defence personnel for easier access to their funds.
